DELI-IVERIES
25 March 2020 | Taste and TourI am going to try not to use the words “unprecedented”, “amid” and “uncertain times” in this blog, and I know that’s going to be a challenge…
We did a shout out last week for any restaurants, delis, grocers etc offering takeaway and/or delivery and got a tonne of responses, but in this ever-changing climate and with government guidelines it’s almost impossible to keep up and there is an excellent resource for this over on Facebook.
A brilliant group is now on Facebook called Who is delivering? Northern Ireland which is updated daily and you can search for your residential area at the top of the page.
We wanted to highlight a few places who we know are amazing supporters of local produce all year round that have changed their offering based on what’s going on.
Do be patient with all of these awesome places as stock can be hard to come by, their hours and availability may change and they’re doing their best!
Arcadia
The heroes of local food and drink in Belfast since 1933. Arcadia is now open Wednesday to Saturday 12 to 3pm, but there is no access to the shop for customers to keep everyone safe. They are encouraging making pre-orders by phone (before 10am) which you can then collect from the store.
They are also offering delivery for free on orders over £30 to postcodes BT4 BT5 BT7 BT9 BT10 BT11 & BT17.

Indie Füde
Comber potatoes aren’t the only local product coming out of Comber thanks to Indie Füde! They are now offering free home delivery and click and collect, where they place the order in the boot of your car. Keep an eye on their social media and website for the daily list of what’s available to order. Orders must be placed by midday the day before and you can order by email.
They’re delivering to Comber, Ballygowan, Killinchy, Bangor, Ards, Holywood, Dundonald, Ballyhackamore, Carryduff and Saintfield.

Mike’s Fancy Cheese
You can still get your cheese fix from Mike’s shop on Little Donegall Street and it is one person in the shop at a time.
Mike is in the process of getting his online store up and running and will be offering deliveries on Thursday this week and hopefully more frequently next week. They will have a weekly delivery subscription with awesome bread, eggs (hopefully some double yokers), yogurt, ricotta, mozzarella, salami and more.

Hillstown Farm Shop
If you’ve been on the Belfast Food Tour then you’ve had their incredible sausages… and you can get them delivered to your door! Hillstown have a full range of meats, fruit and veg boxes, artisan products that you can order online for delivery and it’s a £5.95 flat rate delivery fee. You can also give them a call to order and drive to collect if you are local!
Hog and Haggis sausage anyone?!
The Morning Star
The hospitality sector in NI has been pretty much decimated recently (and I don’t even want to talk about the Tourism Industry!), but The Morning Star have managed to avoid furloughing staff by changing their offering with Pottinger’s now trading as a “farm shop” and deliveries flying out! What we’ve always loved about The Morning Star is that they grow their own veg, rear their own animals on their family farm and have a butcher on site! They’ve adapted to this situation by offering meat packs, ‘heat and eat’ meals, dairy and eggs, fresh vegetables and more - all of this can be ordered online and delivered for free on orders over £30.
Nature’s Way
Not quite a traditional deli, but in the current climate we all need our immune system boosted! Both Caroline and I live in East Belfast and we are regulars at Nature’s Way grabbing sour dough breads, pizza bases, veg boxes and all the other good stuff they have stocked there. You can also get all your home-brew equipment here, just because now you may have time to give that a go! After a couple of crazy weeks (they’re only a small team, like us!) they will be reopening with their delivery system in place on Monday 30th March so keep an eye on their Facebook page for more info.
Sawers
The Belfast institution that is Sawers is now doing free delivery in the Belfast area on orders over £50. Just call to place your order!
Ps they even have pasta, can you believe it?
Rademon Estate Distillery
The awesome team in Crossgar who distill Shortcross Gin are delivering all over NI to keep you in high spirits - pun intended. They’ve got their Shortcross Gin range as well as local beer, cider and tonic water - a one stop shop for a weekend tipple or two!
Co Couture
We are finishing the list with dessert! The multi award-winning chocolatier Co Couture is now offering delivery via Royal Mail, just in time for Easter so you can get a proper chocolate fix with one of their awesome golden eggs or maybe you just want their awesome hot chocolate mix! Check out their Facebook page for more info and to order.
Caroline and I are also going to be sharing some recipes over on Taste and Tour’s Instagram page for what we’re making whilst we’re locked up, so keep an eye on there!
